Highway 20 – Hamby Road Round About

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The US 20 and Hamby Road project in Deschutes County, a crucial initiative undertaken by our company, Marcum & Sons, represents our commitment to enhancing road safety and efficiency in the region. Recognized as a hazardous location with a history of two fatal crashes in the past five years, this intersection required urgent attention.

In response, Deschutes County Commissioners and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) collaboratively dedicated $4.4 million to this improvement project, with a significant contribution of half a million dollars towards redesigning the intersection. The cornerstone of this safety enhancement project was the construction of a roundabout, a decision backed by research showing roundabouts effectively reduce speeds and minimize the severity of collisions.

Our involvement in this project, which began as early as 2021, focused on the intricate design and construction of the roundabout, taking into account the daily traffic of approximately 7,500 vehicles on Highway 20. Through this project, Marcum & Sons has not only contributed to reducing the risk of severe accidents but also played a pivotal role in shaping a safer driving experience in the Deschutes County area.

At Marcum & Sons, we take immense pride in our ability to address and solve complex traffic safety issues through innovative infrastructure solutions. The US 20 and Hamby Road project stands as a testament to our dedication to community safety and our expertise in executing large-scale, impactful construction projects.
